Fieldnotes to a Friend…
…is a collection of texts and photographs documenting the experiences of a contemplative humanitarian aid worker.
The blog section comprises texts that explore the humanitarian discourse, personal anecdotes, and narratives. The photojournal section showcases photographs captured during my travels.
The field: Claiming to share “fieldnotes”, requires a “field”. The term “field” in humanitarian work often refers to either a remote place an NGO operates in, or generally any kind of non-HQ-location. In academia, "field" has a much more abstract meaning, referring to a "field of study". In research, "field" describes the place for observing or interacting with people or animals, to learn about behavior in natural settings.
In the context of this blog, "field" refers to all of the above. "The field" is where life happens, dilemmas are exposed, dreams are crafted, and worlds collape. It is a place where experiences are documented and reflected upon.
Welcome to the field, friend.
